Everyone Has a Shelf Life
We have news! Running a consulting firm is essentially no different from running a construction company or any other kind of business. Every company must consider where they are in the current moment as well as where they want to be over the next decade and measure the skills and talents of their senior leaders compared to the requirements for driving the enterprise forward into a different future. All leaders have a shelf life.
Please tune in this week for an important announcement – well, it's important to us, and we hope it's important to you too. We are in store for some changes here, but the list of what's NOT changing at PCA is quite a bit longer. Our mission is as it ever was: We Build Better Contractors.
Please share your thoughts about our news with us at [email protected].

WAYNE RIVERS: Hi, everyone. This is Wayne Rivers at Performance Construction Advisors, where We Build Better Contractors.
This week, I want to talk about everyone has a shelf life. I first heard this term from Chris Dunnick a couple years ago maybe. He sent me an email and it was very thoughtful. And I included his remarks in one of our blogs.
So, everyone has a shelf life. We're big on being authentic to our members. That means we do strategic planning. We want to live the example that we're talking to our contractors about. And part of that is having regular strategic planning meetings. About 18 months ago, we were talking about what was holding us back from more growth and expansion. And part of that is systems and processes, and frankly IT. And as we were going through the needs of the business in order to keep growing, I was like, that's not me.
I'm not a systems, and processes, and IT guy. Much more entrepreneurial. We need somebody better skilled to help with that. So, I kind of, sort of put myself in the back seat. Now, what about this is important to you? Consulting firms are no different from construction companies. We all have succession planning needs that are either imminent or soon to be imminent. So, as of 12-31-25, I'll no longer be the president of Performance Construction Advisors. It's time for me to step aside. More on that in a minute.
Now, what's not changing? Let's talk about that first, because, oh, Wayne's out, what's going to happen? Well, not much. So, here's what's not changing. Our mission, vision, and values stay the same, so being on authentic example to our members, still the same. Trust, transparency, team play all the same values that we've always had. Our ongoing commitment to strategic planning stays the same. Our three service deliverables, peer groups, boot camp, and one-on-one consulting, they all stay the same.
Our facilitators and consultants stay the same. Nobody's quitting, nobody's leaving. Coordinators stay the same, so we have the same coordinators if you're in the peer group program. Our COO, John Mayes remains. No changes there. Weekly vlogs, you'll keep getting those whether you want them or not. You'll keep getting the weekly vlogs, just as always. And the firewall we have between the consulting piece, PCA and Travelers, the parent company stays in place. We don't do underwriting. They don't do consulting. The two ends you'll never meet.
What is changing? We'll have a new president. Marshall Minoux. Some of you guys know Marshall already, and you'll get to know him better as time goes by. We'll be better able to tap into the resources of a Fortune 100 company. I never had that visibility into all the resources that Travelers has, Marshall brings that. And finally, we'll be able to grow faster and help more contractors. And that's the whole incentive to be making a change like this.
A few thank yous. Karen, Bill and Dennis, for a long time it was just us peddling the bicycle furiously, hoping that we could stay upright. And it seemed like we were in that survival mode for a long time. Thank goodness that's behind us. A big thank you to Bob Raney, who made the acquisition in 2017. That was awesome. Well, it was awesome for us. I hope Travelers thinks it was awesome for them. And all of our terrific people, our internal people, both the current people and also the ones that have moved on through retirement, et cetera. We just have the greatest people. We have been so blessed to have all these people. And that includes the consultants, includes the coordinators, it includes all the admin folks. It's just, I don't want to say anybody's name, because I'm afraid of leaving someone out and hurting someone's feelings.
I'm not retiring. It sounds like this is a big retirement announcement. It's not. I'm not retiring. I'm just narrowing my role a little bit. So, I'll still be doing writing, speaking, business development, hiring, and strategy. So, the five things that I'm probably best at here at PCA, I'll keep doing. It's just I'll be a little less necessary. I'll be a little less involved in a lot of the administrative stuff that you have to do when you're the leader of a company. And it sounds like a good deal for everyone involved.
So, if you want to send me an email at [email protected]. And we'll have more news as things continue to develop and we continue to grow. Thank you. This is Wayne Rivers at PCA, where We Build Better Contractors.
