What Does “Business Succession” Mean?

Several years ago we were hired by a Midwestern contractor to do “business succession.” After a month or two on the job, the contractor called Wayne and asked, “What the heck are you guys doing?!?” What happened? Where was the disconnect? How did Wayne manage to screw this assignment up?
